Mid 20th century compact is richly decorated with engraved and enameled animals.  Both front and back of this beautiful compact are engraved with foliage raised above a white enameled background.  Birds, elephants and gazelles are colorfully executed in enamel with ornate borders on front, back and all edges.  Inside, there is a mirror and closed compartment door marked "Volupté" that opens with a latch. The powder compartment is empty and shows that powder was held there at one time.  The floor of the powder compartment is marked "Leak Proof".  There is some minor wear on the back edge of the outside of the case which measures 2 7/8" square.  This compact is book priced in Ronna Lee Aikins "20th Century Costume Jewelry" at $75-115.
